Onecom is headquartered in Fareham and widely regarded as the UK's largest independent unified communications provider. It's been a long-standing Vodafone strategic partner, and its roots go back to 2002 when it traded as Premier Telecom. Growth has come largely through acquisition, Olive Communications, the 9 Group, Matrix IT and others, and it now supplies business mobile, fixed connectivity, hosted and unified communications, contact centre, and managed IT and cyber services to tens of thousands of UK businesses. It does not operate in the business energy market.
Our verdict
Onecom scores 77/100 (Very good) and ranks #3 overall. SMEs and mid-market organisations that want a single UK partner to bring together Vodafone business mobile, fixed connectivity, cloud telephony, contact centre and managed IT and cyber services. A good fit if vendor accreditation and scale matter more to you than rock-bottom transparent pricing.
Strengths
- UK's largest independent business comms provider with serious scale (650+ staff, hundreds of thousands of mobile users and 70,000+ UC seats)
- Exceptionally strong Vodafone relationship, named Vodafone Strategic Partner of the Year for a record run of consecutive years, giving competitive mobile/airtime access
- Genuinely broad single-supplier stack: mobile, fixed connectivity, hosted voice, contact centre, managed IT and cyber under one roof (true convergence play)
- Strong vendor accreditations across Vodafone, Microsoft, Zoom, Five9 and Zendesk plus ISO 27001 / ISO 22301 / Cyber Essentials
- Proprietary OneCloud platform and in-house provisioning/support for an end-to-end managed experience
Watch-outs
- No business energy offering, buyers wanting comms plus energy under one supplier must look elsewhere
- Acquisition-led growth (Olive, 9 Group, Matrix IT and others) can mean inconsistent systems, branding and service experience across legacy customer bases
- Trustpilot is solid overall (4.0/5) but a notable ~9% 1-star tail, with recurring complaints around contract terms, billing and early-termination/auto-renewal
- Bespoke quote-based pricing means limited up-front transparency for smaller buyers comparing costs
- Mobile proposition is tied to Vodafone, single-network reliance rather than multi-network choice
